Warning.... Tirade follows

I hate dell with a passion. You may have noticed my lack of blogging, and that would be due to my lack of computering (yes I know that is not a verb.) Well anyway, I have had my laptop for about a year and a half. It is a Dell Insipron 1501. I know it is not the top of the line but should have met my needs and more. Key word should have…..

About a month ago out of the blue I get an error message when I turn on my computer.

“Warning- The ac adapter type cannot be determined. This will prevent optimal system performance. Please check the ac adapter connect properly, remove ac adapter and plug-in again. Thanks”

“Press any key to continue”

Press (f2) 2 times to enter set up

Press (f12) and any key to enter boot menu

now my battery won’t charge and I need to keep my computer plug in to get power. Sucks, but not the end of the world since I only use my laptop at home. Well that worked for like two days. My system started running really slow and would freeze up and not respond.

I finally called Dell which was not a call I was looking forward to since I was out of warranty by six months, and I have heard horrible stories of Dell Costumer Service! Well, I finally called and they were a whole lot of NO HELP! 30 minute conversation of me saying, “excuse me, I can’t understand you, pardon me, What, I can’t understand you, Huh.” Finally he tells me that he can’t help me, and that I need to speak to a technician and that will cost me $40. That is when I had enough. I laid into him and hung up (not very level headed I know.) So a week later still no computer (going nuts) I convince my loving awesome husband to deal with the dell *expletive* (choose any you like, they all work.)

Awesome rock your face off Chris calls, and pays to talk to a technician who then advises him to wiggle the ac adapter cord to see if that works. So long story longer he tells us it is an adapter problem (which we know it is not.) Then he tells us we have to replace our mother board.

So here is the deal. After thinking many swear words (gasp…. and saying a few) I have to replace the mother board which cost about as much as my computer did; Which means I have to get a whole new computer.

END OF STORY….DELL I HATE YOU! I WILL NEVER BUY A COMPUTER FROM YOU AGAIN, AND I HOPE YOU ROT IN HELL!

Wow!!! I hope that your computer woes are short-lived and that you find a simple solution. Sounds awful. You could always alert a consumer-advocacy group to let them know how you had a horrible experience. At least it's documented, then.

We missed you at the Tri today. I hope to see in one soon!

We use Dells at work and have the same problem. Seems like 1 in 3 computers has to get their motherboard replaced after a year or 2. Plus the batteries die after a year or so as well. I would never buy a Dell for personal use.

Funny that I read this story tonight. We were having dinner with some friends and talking about the worst possible customer service via the phone and after a few votes for Delta, we decided that Dell definitley takes the cake. What I hate the most is when I can tell they are responding to my very specific questions/problems by reading to me from a script!!!!
